Many companies will simply attempt to kill the mold while leaving your current insulation intact. Some companies will removal both the insulation and treat the area with a mold killing chemical. The issue that arises is that no chemical exists to penetrate further than 2 inches into your insulation. It is this reason that makes the proper removal of your insulation paramount to the effectiveness of the treatment process.

After your roof has been repaired the mold remediation process begins. All mold infested insulation is removed and all soffits are cleaned out to allow proper ventilation. Baffles are also installed to prevent the soffits from being re-clogged with insulation. The next step is fitting proper bathroom exhaust vents (improper washroom ventilation is a major cause of attic mold infestation, with roof leaks being the number one cause). Warm, moist air rising from showers and bathtubs vents directly into your attic hot zones and must be sealed properly. Furthermore, a special mold killing solution is fogged throughout your attic and a higher R-value insulation is installed. Lastly the fog solution is applied a second time to ensure the highest degree of mold killing saturation possible. These process, though tedious, prevent any and all possibilities of future infections.
